WHEN NO ONE’S WATCHING

My name is JC Candanedo and I am a London-based Visual Artist. This is my fashion photography story called When No One’s Watching, an exploration of how we make use of the time that we spend on our own.

These images feel very timely to me. We have spent a lot of time with ourselves over the last few months, particularly those who live on their own. It has been a time for mixed feelings. A self-reflection and appreciation of the simple things in life. But also a sense of vulnerability and of hibernating during spring.

Life during the pandemic has had a big toll on our Mental Health, but we must keep in mind that this situation is temporary. And once this is over, we will never be the same. We will come out on the other side valuing things that we took for granted before, with a stronger sense of family and community and, most importantly, knowing ourselves a bit more.

The series was created in collaboration with stylist Geraint Donovan-Bowen and model Joao Afonso.

The work was featured on:

Issue 14 of Image 34 Magazine.
